Benefit to celebrate inspiring women

A May 11 event promises to celebrate the inspiring power of women philanthropists, while supporting local youth through the On Track to Success program of the United Way.

On Track to Success offers supports that wrap around a family and help kids graduate high school and go on to post-secondary education — the clearest pathway to a life of prosperity.

Marium Tolson-Murtty, UWindsor director of anti-racism organizational change, serves on the Women United committee hosting the virtual event, entitled “Celebrating Women Who Inspire Us.” She is proud to support services for youth at risk of leaving school.

“This cause is truly near and dear to my heart,” she says. “As well as tutoring and coaching, I am really excited to share that we have been able to fund extracurricular activities for these high school students, such as driving licences and swimming lessons.”

The May 11 event will feature a presentation by singer-songwriter Kellylee Evans, winner of the 2011 Juno award for vocal jazz album of the year for Nina. Evans will share her journey of recovery and showcase the importance of self-care.

Kristen Siapas, marketing co-ordinator for University Players, will emcee.

Attendees may join a pre-show gathering at 11:30 a.m. followed by the program from noon to 1 p.m. Admission requires a minimum $25 donation. Find details and register here.
