Gaming systems to power Lancer esports

A partnership with Lenovo Canada will provide a boost to Lancer Gaming, the first intercollegiate esports team in Canada.

The company will donate eight custom-built Lenovo Legion computer systems as well as two administrative solutions for operational staff, in exchange for marketing and promotional benefits, including prominent placement of its logo in the esports arena in Vanier Hall once constructed.

“We’re grateful for Lenovo’s leadership and generosity, and know that because of this contribution, more experiences will be able to be offered to students at the University of Windsor by Lancer Gaming,” says Phebe Lam, acting associate vice-president, student experience.

Cindy Crump, director of the Student Success and Leadership Centre, says she is particularly delighted with the team at Lenovo and its inclusion of Lancer Gaming student staff in the development of this sponsorship.

“Together with Lenovo’s professionals and Lancer Gaming co-ordinator Jeremy Renaud, practical skills experienced by these students will undoubtedly transfer into many settings and future roles,” she says. “The substantial gift of equipment is more than the icing on the cake.”

Lenovo Canada’s consumer segment director Craig Taylor also touts the deal.

“Our Lenovo Legion portfolio of gaming PCs and accessories are expertly crafted to help gamers of all skill levels perform to the best of their abilities,” says Taylor. “We’re proud to provide these state-of-the-art Lenovo Legion systems to Lancer Gaming to help its teams improve their skills, compete at the highest levels, and continue building out their esports program.”

Lancer Gaming is a member of Ontario Post-Secondary Esports and the U.S.-based National Association of Collegiate Esports, with teams competing in League of Legends, Valorant, and Rocket League. Learn more on the program website.
