Jazz Ensemble bringing Summer Wind blowing in

Vocalist Chris Martel invoking the Summer Wind, Heinz Meier’s and Johnny Mercer’s standard, is one of the highlights on the program for the University Jazz Ensemble’s spring concert, Saturday, April 6, from 8 p.m. to midnight.

The event will transition from a concert set to a dance with cash bar for what promoters are calling the best entertainment value in town. Besides Martel, a second-year music therapy major, featured vocalists include Aimee Clifford and Lisette Gagnon, backed by a 24-member big band under the direction of Bob Fazecash.

Jazz standards to grace concert program

The University Jazz Ensemble will add some seasonal flavour to a program of great standards during its end-of-semester concert on Friday, November 30, at Banwell Community Church.

Under the direction of Bob Fazecash, the ensemble will ring some Jingle Bells along with a selection of charts that includes Billie Holiday’s God Bless the Child and Herbie Hancock’s Chameleon, as well as You’re Nobody til Somebody Loves You.

Along with the big band of more than 20 musicians, the concert will feature a set by more intimate student combo.
